Indonesia Trade Balance Swings To Deficit

Indonesia’s trade BALANCE swung to a deficit in April from a surplus in the previous month, amid a falls in exports and imports, figures from Statistics Indonesia showed on Friday.

Exports fell 7.02 percent year-on-year in April. Economists had expected a decline of 2.7 percent.

Imports declined 18.58 percent annually in April. Economists had forecast a decrease of 12.73 percent.

On a monthly basis, exports dropped 13.33 percent and imports decreased 6.10 percent in April.

The trade balance registered a deficit of $0.345 billion in April versus $0.715 billion surplus in March. Economists had expected a deficit of $0.2 billion. In the same month last year, the trade deficit was $2.285 billion.
